BAWA 2023-2024 Celebrations

BAWA Spring Festival & Durga Puja 2023 : A Celebration of Culture and Community

The Bengali Association of Western Australia (BAWA) Spring Festival & Durga Puja 2023 was a resounding success, filled with joy and vibrant energy that showcased the rich culture of Bengal.

We were honoured to have special guests at the festival and their presence added a special touch to the celebration and made the event even more memorable. Durga Puja is a celebration, featuring beautiful performances, traditional rituals, and a lively display of Bengali culture. More than 3000 attendees over 3 days enjoyed a variety of activities, including music, dance, and delicious Bengali food. The festival truly captured the spirit of the occasion and brought everyone together in a joyous celebration.

We are also very grateful to Lotterywest for their continued support of BAWA. Their help was crucial in making this event possible and allowing us to celebrate our heritage so beautifully. We appreciate everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the event.

Kalipuja 2023

Like every year, BAWA celebrated Kaali Puja on 12th November, 2023 at Indian Community Centre, Willetton.

BAWA Annual Picnic: A Day of Sunshine, Yoga, and Appreciation

The Bengali Association of Western Australia (BAWA) held its Annual Picnic on December 2023, a delightful event that perfectly captured the spirit of our community. With beautiful sunshine gracing the day, the picnic was an ideal setting for a celebration of joy, relaxation, and gratitude.

The event was packed with a variety of activities designed to engage and entertain. Attendees took part in invigorating yoga sessions, enjoyed lively sports and recreational games, and savoured delicious food from the popular BBQ. The food and activities provided a perfect mix of relaxation and excitement, allowing everyone to unwind and connect.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Department of Communities for their support of BAWA. We have received a Volunteer grant for the first time in BAWA. This helped us to organize such meaningful events and recognise the invaluable contributions of our volunteers.

Saraswati Puja 2024

This year BAWA celebrated Saraswati Puja on 18th February, 2024 at Indian Community Centre, Willetton.

BAWA Sports: Celebrating Community through Badminton

The BAWA Badminton Tournament aims to harness the power of sports to unite our members, which was organised on 2nd March, 2024. This event is thoughtfully designed to showcase athletic talent while fostering meaningful connections, nurturing new friendships, and celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship. It provided a unique platform for BAWA members to strengthen our community bonds through the joy of friendly competition.

Rabindra Jayanti 2024

This year, the Bengali Association of Western Australia (BAWA) celebrated Rabindra Jayanti with the Consulate General of India, Perth. As proud Bengalis, it is our responsibility to take Tagore and his creations, philosophy, and vision to the wider community. Hosting the celebration in collaboration with the CGI and at the Consulate office was the least we could do to honour the legend and creator of the Indian national anthem.

The event was a great success, drawing over 130 attendees from BAWA and the broader Indian community. It featured wonderful performances by children and adults, showcasing the rich art, culture, and music of Bengal.

Dignitaries present at the event included Hon. Consul General of India Mr Amarjit Singh Takhi, Dr Jags Krishnan MLA Riverton, Mr Deepak Sharma — President of ISWA, Dr Anisur Rahman — President of BAAWA, and Mr. Keyur Kamdar-Councillor of the City of Armadale. Their presence added importance to the celebration and highlighted the significance of Bengali culture.

The collaboration with the Consulate General of India helped BAWA bring Bengali traditions to a wider audience. This year’s event was a great start.

Blood Donation Camp 2024

The Gift of Life: A Heartfelt Thank You to BAWA Superheroes

Blood donation is often described as the gift of life, and this couldn’t be truer for those who participate in these life-saving acts. The Bengali Association of Western Australia (BAWA) recently held a blood donation drive, and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to all the BAWA superheroes who made this event a success.

Your generous contributions have not only demonstrated the spirit of giving but also have played a crucial role in saving lives. Each donation carries the potential to make a significant difference in the lives of those in need, and we are incredibly grateful for your kindness and selflessness.

The success of this drive is a testament to the strength of our community and our collective commitment to helping others.
